Remembering Harvey Krueger, Z"L

The Routes to Roots Foundation expresses our profound and deep sorrow over the passing of board member, Harvey M. Krueger. I first met Harvey in the early 1990s when I began working with him on his family history in Poland and Lithuania and later his wife, Connie's, family history in Belarus and Poland.

In 1994, Harvey was instrumental in establishing the Routes to Roots Foundation and from that time until his death, Harvey served as an active board member, mentor, supporter (both financially and in a myriad of other ways) and most of all as a friend. Harvey's continuing guidance, support and passion for genealogy enabled the RTRF Foundation to fulfill its mission.

Additionally, Harvey was instrumental in bringing about a partnership agreement between the RTRF and Ancestry.com as well as the subsequent agreement between the RTRF and the Center for Jewish History in New York City. We extend heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues throughout the world.

Access to Lviv Oblast Archives.

The Reading Room of the State Archive of Lviv Oblast is closed to on-site visits by researchers during the inventory process necessitated by the theft of valuable documents. It is unknown as to when this Reading Room will re-open. If a researcher sends a letter to Kiev and applies to the State Committee on Archives of Ukraine for permission to do on-site research in the Lviv Oblast Archive , the request is usually granted.  The Lviv Oblast Archive responds to all research inquiries by e-mail, telephone or fax. However, there are no materials in this archive normally of interest to genealogists (birth/marriage/death records or census documents).  These latter documents are housed in the Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Lviv
