A series of color images and brief essays in Ukrainian describing the environment and history of the city and district of Zhmerynka near Vinnytsia in central Ukraine. The historical section begins with the arrival of rail lines and a key junction in the second half of the 19th century, and the economic importance of railway service and machine-building is a theme throughout. The only mention of the Jewish community is in the establishment of a German-built ghetto during the occupation of WWII. The regional history is much older, to thousands of years in archaeology and several centuries of written records. Among other local history features, the correspondence between Nadezhda von Meck from the village of Brailiv and the composer Tchaikovsky led to a state museum there commemorating his time in the area. The front side of this brochure, by Kartografiia of Kyiv, shows a detailed street map of Zhmerynka with numbered markers for many cultural sites (including a synagogue), and a useful road map of the former Zhmerynka district.
