LITHUANIA'S ADMINISTRATIVE DIVISIONS
1998

Counties of Lithuania were created in the process of implementing the reform of Territorial-administrative units of the country (started in 1994). They encompass historically determined regions, characterized by common social, economic and ethno-cultural interests. Such territorial-administrative units also existed in Lithuania in the period between the two wars. The County Administration, executed by the County Governor’s administrations, is an integral part of the administration of the State.
